Tips on how to be promoted without even trying

note: this article shouldn't be taken seriously. similarities of any sort to actual living persons is purely coincidence... :-r

1. Always be in the know. Who says that in-depth knowledge of the bill a pre-requisite to a successful lobby. What's important is that you know a person who knows his stuff so that you could hear his explanation. Discuss things with them. Pick their brains and hold on to every insightful knowledge they have to share. The trick is to memorize every word they have to say and know how to spruce it up with your own catch phrases and sound bites so that it would seem that the IDEA came from you. No its not plaigiarism, its called resourcefulness...

2. Know the art of asking questions to draw out opinions. Can't form your own idea? Have trouble forming your own opinion? No problem. The trick is to learn the art of questioning. Act as if you understand the discussions with the person mentioned in point number one. Learn how to use flattery; dramatic pauses while furrowing your brow and acting as if you are in deep thought, and paraphrasing the words of others more suited for the job than you and turning this into your own insightful and analytical question. After doing this use the technique mentioned in number one so that the IDEA would look as if it came from you.

3. Always smile and act friendly. Can't think of anything to say during meetings? Don't have a stand yet on the issues being discussed? No problem, the point is you were there; even if the only thing you said during the meeting was "i think that's great or "i believe that's okay" at least you were present. And since you acted frinedly and you wore your million dollar smile people warm up to you instantly. Your opinions do not matter what's important is you established relationships. always remember that what's important is not WHAT you know but WHOM you know. Its always about connections, and what better way to develop them than by bieng the all around pal. YOU CHUMP...
